| Xenosomes: | "alien bodies," apparently of a bacterial nature, recently found
in the cytoplasm of certain marine scuticociliates (e.g., Parauronema); these
infectious particles are transmissible from ciliate to ciliate; the term
- xenosome - may come to be considered more appropriate than endosymbiont
for all such organisms; but see also Endosymbiont (of Ciliates).
